Edit: Job Cost Codes

Make the following menu selections to display this page.

Job Cost—Setup—Job Costing—JC Codes—(select a JC code)

Use this menu item to add Job Cost Codes to the system.

Job Cost Codes are used to set up Jobs. Below is a list of the Job Cost Codes and possible examples of each. Set up Job Cost Codes to meet your organization's needs.

Account Group

Examples: Account Group 1, Account Group 2

Architect

Examples: Florence Zander, Erik Rain

Contract Type

Examples: Fee for Service, Cost Plus

Department

Examples: Department X, Department Y

Estimator

Examples: Liam Fleet, Mila Guess

Owner Class

Examples: Owner Class 1, Owner Class 2

Project Manager

Examples: John White, Nora Young

Retainage

Examples: Retainage Code 1, Retainage Code 2

Sales Representative

Examples: Dexter McGraw, Sherman York

Superintendent

Examples: Joel Henry, Karen Jorgensen

Technical Representative

Examples: Kate Broward, Larry Cutter

Work Type

Examples: Construction, Demolition

A red dot Required field indicates a required field or selection.

User Code

The read-only User Code, for example, "Project Manager." This label is hard-coded into the system.

Description

The description of the User Code. The description defaults to the label that is hard-coded into the system, but is editable so that you can customize to your organization's needs.

The Description is used as the User Code label in the Job Cost Codes submenu that you just selected it from. As it is used as a label the submenu, it cannot be blank.
Example:

For the default Job Cost User Code "Project Manager," if you change the description to "PM," then "PM" appears in the submenu after you save changes.

The submenu path would be:

Setup—AR Setup—AR Codes—Project Manager (the default)

Setup—AR Setup—AR Codes—PM (after the Description was changed and then saved)

Code/Description table

You can add Job Cost User Codes by completing Code / Descriptions lines here. A new line appears automatically as you complete the fields in a line.

The codes that you add are shown when a user clicks on the lookup for a field in the setup Jobs User Codes tab.

You can add as many Code / Description combinations as you need.

Code

Enter the Job Cost code into the field, for example JW (for the project manager John White).

Description

Enter a description for the code just entered, for example, John White.

Entering a Code is optional, but if you enter a Code then the Description is required.

Buttons

Click to delete a Code / Description combination.

Save

Click to save changes. The lookup on the setup Jobs User Codes tab refreshes to show any changes.

Procedure

ClosedTo Edit Job Cost Codes

  1. Select Job Cost—Setup—Job Costing—JC Codes—(select a code to edit). The Edit page appears for the code you selected.
  2. Note that the default User Code cannot be edited; however the label for the default User Code can be edited.

    To change the label for the default User Code, edit the Description field. This is optional.
  1. To add a code, in the Code/Description table, enter a code and a description for the code in the appropriate fields.

    To edit a code, make changes to the Code/Description table as needed.
  2. Repeat the previous step to add/edit Code/Description combinations in the table.
  3. When done adding to or editing the Code/Description table, click Save.

Note

When you save, two things happen:

The Setup—Job Costing—JC Codes submenu refreshes to show any changes to the label of the defaultUser Code.

The Codes/Descriptions you added/edited in the table are saved as options for the Job Cost User Code's lookup in the setup Jobs User Codes tab.
