Permissions enable users to select an option from the software menu and complete a task using the software. Permissions can be granted to a role or to a user.
Roles
Roles allow you to set up multiple users with a common set of permissions. First, identify a role that can be filled by several users (such as "Administrator"). Then, set up the role and assign the users to the role.
As the needs of the users change, you can adjust the permissions for the role, which automatically enables or disables the menu options for each user assigned that role. For more information about setting up permissions based on roles, refer to Roles Concepts and Processes.
Effect of Permissions on the Dashboard
Dashboard Snap-ins are driven by the user's security permissions. In the permissions tree, be sure to look for and select permissions noted as Dashboard Snap-ins to make the items available for selection for the user's Dashboard. For more information, refer to the Dashboard Concepts and Processes and the Manage Snap-ins Tab.
