Fields
General Information
Username
The display-only user name.
Permissions
The applications included in your system list in the Permissions box. Each application includes all possible menu options for that application.
Plus Sign / Minus Sign
Click the plus sign to the left of application check boxes to expand the Permissions tree for that application. As you click plus signs, the Permission tree expands to display more menu options. When a minus sign displays, you have reached the lowest option level in the Permissions tree. Options below this level carry no sign. To reverse the process, click a minus sign to collapse the options.
Check boxes
Add or remove checkmarks to boxes to grant or withhold permissions for the user.
Note
Rest the mouse over a permission and a "tool tip" that provides more information about the permission appears. For example, rest the mouse over "Dashboard Snap-ins" (last item in the tree for each application) and Define which snap-in the user can select is the tool tip that appears.
Use caution when adding a checkmark to a check box. If you add a checkmark to box with a plus sign to the left, you are granting permission for the user to access not only that option but all options below the selected level in the Permissions tree. For example, if you click the plus sign beside System, the options Security and Setup display. If you add a checkmark to the Setup box, you grant the user access to Databases and the ability to view, add, modify, and delete databases.
A blank check box indicates that
no permissions are granted to the user.
A checked check box indicates
that permission are granted to the user.
A green box in a check box indicates
that limited access was granted to a user. To see granted permissions,
click the plus sign to expand the Permissions tree until you find the
checkmarks that indicate that permissions were granted to menu options.
A check box with a gray background
indicates that the user is being granted access based on an assigned role.
Since the user inherits access from the role, you cannot remove the checkmarks
to remove the access at this level.
You have two options to affect user access. You can remove the role assignment from the user, which removes the access. Or you may be able to change access that is selected at a lower level. To see granted permissions at a lower level, click the plus sign to expand the Permissions tree until you find green checkmarks on a white background.
Expand All
Select this link to expand the Permissions tree so that it displays all options for all applications. Note that after this is done, none of the check boxes have a plus sign on the left.
Collapse All
Select this link to collapse the Permissions tree so that it displays only applications included in your system. Note that after this is done, all check boxes have a plus sign on the left.
Return to User
