System—Setup—Dashboard
Templates
Use this functionality to create a set of global and/or
application-specific snap-in "templates" to display on the Dashboard.
These templates can be applied to multiple users. For information about
applying a template to a user, refer to the Users
General Tab.
What is a Dashboard Template and how is it
used?
A Dashboard Template is a set of tabs and snap-ins that
a user with Dashboard Template permissions
can set up. Using Dashboard Template functionality ensures that a user
has snap-ins available and configured as desired by your organization
for viewing on the global tab and application-specific tabs.
A Dashboard
Template is usually intended to be applied to multiple users, which saves
time and standardizes the user experience.
- A Dashboard Template
is limited to a maximum of one global tab plus one tab each for eFinancials,
ePO, eService, eSite.
- It is not necessary
or advisable to set up tabs that will be empty, i.e., tabs on which you
will not be placing at least one snap-in.
- Any number of snap-ins
may be placed on any of the tabs that are set up as part of a Dashboard
Template.
- Each user may only
have one Dashboard Template applied.
What displays on a Dashboard Template?
The Dashboard tabs and snap-ins that display for a user
after login depend not only on whether a Dashboard Template has been applied
to that user, but also on the following criteria:
- The applications that make up the system.
Snap-ins are application-specific. If an application is not part of a
user's system, snap-ins available for that application cannot be displayed
on the user's global Dashboard.
- Not every application has snap-ins.
Currently, eDex and System do not have snap-ins.
Note
If a Dashboard Template has been applied
to a user, the user can still create up to 6 more tabs per application
and place any number of snap-ins on those user tabs; however the administrator
determines which snap-ins are available to be selected by the user. Using
snap-in role and/or user
permissions, an administrator can restrict the snap-ins available to the
user for selection.
What permissions are required to create a
Dashboard Template?
A user must have View Template, Add
Template, and Modify Template
permissions in
order to see the Dashboard Template menu item, add a template and add
snap-ins to the template, respectively. Refer to role
and/or user permissions for more information.
Important tips for setting up a Dashboard Template
- Snap-ins must be
arranged on the template exactly as they are intended to be viewed by
the user, as the user cannot move snap-ins on these tabs.
- Users can resize
these snap-ins, but the proximity to other snap-ins should be considered,
as this may affect how much a snap-in can be resized.
- Users cannot edit
or delete tabs or snap-ins set up for them via a template; however, users
can change selection criteria to display data, etc., as usual.
