Effect of Browsers on Letters

When setting up Letters, users on Internet Explorer / MS Word with ActiveX support enabled will start automatically and the template will be tied in so the user can immediately start creating/editing their letter.

When setting up letters on Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, or Internet Explorer without ActiveX support, the user is prompted to download the Word document and the template, and the system provides an alert to the user about the steps to be taken. For a new letter, a standard starting document is supplied with some instructional text, which can/should be deleted.

Note

When viewing a saved client-side letter (or old-style server-side letter), if the browser does not support ActiveX controls then the .DOC and .DAT files will be downloaded (with default names of SavedLetter.DOC and .DAT) and then the user can use MS Word mail merge functions to set the recipient list to the download .DAT file and complete the merge in MS Word. This allows the viewing of client-side saved letters on Windows XP using Firefox or Chrome browsers.

For more information on Letters, refer to Client-side and Server-Side Letters, found on your installation CD.
