Sales Tax Codes

Make the following menu selections to display this page:

eFinancials (or ePO)—Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Codes

Use this page to set up or edit Sales Tax Codes, which are made up of one or more Jurisdictions.  

Fields Lists

Note

You can click a column title to sort the grid.

Or, click the Filter button in a column to filter the grid by that column.

Add Sales Tax Code button

Click the button to add a new Sales Tax Code. Refer to the Add instructions later in this topic for details.

Sales Tax Codes

The Sales Tax Code identification. Click the link to view or edit Sales Tax Code details.

Refer to the Edit instructions later in this topic for details.

State

The state you are setting up the Sales Tax Code for.

Description

The user-defined description for the Sales Tax Code.

Delete

Use the Delete button to delete a Sales Tax Code. Refer to the Delete instructions later in this topic for details.

A red dot indicates a required field or selection.

Tax Code

An identification label for the Tax Code (for example, ALB for Albany). This ID appears on lists and in reports.

State

Click the drop-down arrow and select the state you are setting up the Tax Code for (for example, New York). The state appears on lists and in reports.

Description

The user-defined description for the Tax Code (for example, Albany). The description appears on lists and in reports.

Add Jurisdiction button

Click the button to add a new Jurisdiction for the Tax Code. A new line appears at the top of the grid.

Jurisdiction drop-down button

Click the arrow and select a Jurisdiction from the drop-down list. Only Jurisdictions for the selected State are available for selection.

When you select a Jurisdiction, the other fields in the line default in automatically based on how the Jurisdiction was set up.

Type

The Type associated with the Jurisdiction you selected.

Description

The Description associated with the Jurisdiction you selected.

Percent

The tax percentage that was set up for the Jurisdiction that you selected.

Delete

Use the Delete button to delete a Jurisdiction from the grid. Refer to the Delete instructions later in this topic.

Save

Click to save changes.

Procedures

ClosedTo Add a Sales Tax Code

Use the Add/Edit field list for help.

  1. Select Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Codes. The Sales Tax Codes grid appears.
  2. Click Add Sales Tax Code The Add Sales Tax Code form appears.
  3. At the Tax Code field, type a Tax Code identifier.
  4. At the State field, click the drop-down arrow and select the state that the Tax Code is being set up for.
  5. At the Description field, type a description of the Tax Code.
  6. Click Add Jurisdiction.
  7. Click the drop-down arrow on the Select Jurisdiction button and then select the Jurisdiction for the Sales Tax Code. The rest of the fields on the line default into the grid.
  8. Repeat the previous step to add one or more additional Jurisdictions, if applicable.
  9. Click Save.

ClosedTo Edit a Sales Tax Code

  1. Select Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Codes. The Sales Tax Codes grid appears.
  2. Select the link in the Sales Tax Codes column for the code you want to edit. The Edit Sales Tax Code form appears.
  3. Use the Add/Edit Field list for help editing the Sales Tax Code.
  4. Click Save.

ClosedTo Delete a Sales Tax Code

  1. Select Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Codes. The Sales Tax Codes grid appears.
  2. Click the Delete icon for the Sales Tax Code you want to delete. A confirmation message appears.
  3. Click Confirm Delete. The Sales Tax Codes setup page appears again.

ClosedEffect of Permissions

Permissions must be set in the System module to access all Sales Tax Codes setup activities.

System module—Security—Users—eFinancials—Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Code

Sales Tax Codes setup has separate permissions for Add, Edit, Delete, and View.

ClosedSetup Details

Jurisdiction Codes should be set up for states prior to creating Sales Tax Codes for the states.

General ledger liability accounts for Sales Tax and Use Tax should be set up prior to creating Sales Tax Codes, using the following tabs:
