Reporting on Paper Only for 1099 Processing

Reporting electronically or on magnetic media is not required. If you are reporting less than 250 payees and you have never reported electronically or on magnetic media before, you can report using printed 1099 forms produced by GEMM. To produce the forms using this system and GEMM, you must have a transmitter control code to group the data for an XML file. However, this transmitter control code can be a dummy transmitter control code; that is, a non-IRS-assigned code. The dummy code allows you to print the forms and ignore the electronic or magnetic media production.
