Sales Tax Jurisdictions

Make the following menu selections to display this page:

eFinancials (or ePO)—Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Jurisdictions

Use this page to set up Sales Tax Jurisdictions, which are used to set up Sales Tax Codes.  

Note

Sales Tax / Use Tax for a Jurisdiction cannot be modified if the GL account associated with it has transactions related to it.

Also validation for Sales Tax and Use Tax GL Accounts for Jurisdictions ensures that Sales Tax and Use Tax are not used in more than one Jurisdiction.

You can click a column title to sort the grid.

Or, click the Filter button in a column to filter the grid by that column.

Add Sales Tax Jurisdiction button

Click the button to add a new Sales Tax Jurisdiction. Refer to the Add instructions later in this topic for details.

Sales Tax Jurisdiction

The Sales Tax Jurisdiction identification. Click the link to view or edit Sales Tax Jurisdiction details.

Refer to the Edit instructions later in this topic for details.

State

The state you are setting up the Sales Tax Jurisdiction for.

Type

The type of jurisdiction for the Sales Tax Jurisdiction (for example, State, County, Local).

Delete

Use the Delete button to delete a Sales Tax Jurisdiction. Refer to the Delete instructions later in this topic for details.

A red dot indicates a required field or selection.

Jurisdiction

An identification label for the Jurisdiction (for example, NY 2). This ID appears on lists and in reports.

State

Click the drop-down arrow and select the state you are setting up the Jurisdiction for. The state appears on lists and in reports.

Type

Click the drop-down arrow and select the type of tax. Options include State (default), County, City, Local, School.

Description

The user-defined description for the Jurisdiction (for example, NY State sales tax). The description appears on lists and in reports.

Tax ID

The tax ID number associated with the Jurisdiction (for example: 55-1234567).

Tax %

The tax rate expressed as a percentage. Enter as a whole number with up to four decimal places.

Maximum tax limit

The maximum tax limit per transaction.

The system calculates sales tax on a purchase up to the amount specified as the maximum. For example, for a tax rate of 7% with a Maximum tax limit of $750, the system calculates tax in the normal way for any single transaction up to $750, or $52.50 in tax. The tax for a single transaction over the $750 limit is always $52.50 because it is calculated using the Maximum tax limit rather than the actual transaction amount.

If there is no limit, enter 0.00.

Calculate tax for

Select the Cost Types to calculate tax for. Cost types that can be selected are Administrative, Equipment, Labor Material, Other, Subcontractor. Default is that all Cost Types are selected.

Cost Types are set up in Job Cost setup.

Save

Click to save changes.

Procedures

ClosedTo Add a Jurisdiction

  1. Select Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Jurisdictions. The Sales Tax Jurisdiction grid appears.
  2. Click Add Sales Tax Jurisdiction. The Add Sales Tax Jurisdiction form appears.
  3. Use the Fields list to complete the form.
  4. Click Save.

ClosedTo Edit a Jurisdiction

  1. Select Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Jurisdictions. The Sales Tax Jurisdiction grid appears.
  2. Select the link in the Sales Tax Jurisdiction column for the code you want to edit. The Edit Sales Tax Jurisdiction form appears.
  3. Use the Fields list to complete the form.
  4. Click Save.

ClosedTo Delete a Sales Jurisdiction

  1. Select Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Jurisdictions. The Sales Tax Jurisdiction grid appears.
  2. Click the Delete icon for the Sales Tax Jurisdiction you want to delete. A confirmation message appears.
  3. Click Confirm Delete. The Sales Tax Jurisdiction setup page appears again.

ClosedEffect of Permissions

Permissions must be set in the System module to access all Sales Tax Codes setup activities.

System module—Security—Users—eFinancials—Setup—Global Setup—Sales Tax Jurisdictions

Sales Tax Jurisdictions setup has separate permissions for Add, Edit, Delete, and View.

ClosedSetup Details

Jurisdiction Codes should be set up for states prior to creating Sales Tax Codes for the states.

General ledger liability accounts for Sales Tax and Use Tax should be set up prior to creating Sales Tax Codes, using the following tabs:
