Property Policies Overview

Property policies define the functional response of your system. Property policies are implemented through user-defined Property Policy Codes that inherit a set of property policies with editable settings. By definition, all properties that are assigned the same Property Policy Code share the same property policies and settings. Setting up property policies is required.

About Property Policy Codes and Property Policies

Property Policy Codes are user-defined; however, property policies and their default settings are inherited based on the property type selected for the Code: Residential or Commercial. This allows you to set up multiple Property Policy Codes for residential and commercial property types and customize them to suit your needs.

NoteNote

Only policies that apply to the Property Type of the property policy you are working with will display on this tab. For example, policies that apply only to the property type Standard Residential do not display when you are working with a property policy of the Property Type, Standard Commercial. Policies refer to “unit” and “resident” or “suite” and “tenant,” depending on whether the policy applies to a Residential or Commercial property type.

Setting Up Property Policies

Your selection of policies as well as the combination of policy settings you select may impact your overall data and affect required activities or fields within the system. Refer to Setup Questions in the Policies and Setup Guide for a list of questions that can assist you in setting up your system. For your records—and in case you decide to make changes—create and maintain a written list of policies.

Editing Property Policies

After setup, be sure to edit the default property policy settings for each Property Policy Code to customize the system for your business.

NoteNote

Prior to editing property policies, you must add at least one valid Property Policy Code. Refer to the To Add a Property Policy Code topic for more information. Once a property policy code exists, you can edit the default settings of the property policies associated with the code.
